TABOO WORD
taboo word: translation
certain words are not used by fishermen for superstitious reasons, e.g. names of fishes, and are replaced by other words. In Yorkshire, taboo words on trawlers include other words not associated with fishing, e.g. pig, egg, cat, knife, rat, clergyman, etc. Seems to refer both to the word not spoken and the replacement word
